At KMTComputing Ltd, we are committed to respecting your privacy and minimizing data collection. This Privacy Policy explains how data is handled when you use Synapse, our AI chat application.
KEY PRINCIPLE: LOCAL-FIRST DESIGN
Synapse is built with privacy in mind:
- We do not collect or store personal data on our servers
- All chat content, profiles, and settings are stored locally on your device
- API keys and credentials are stored securely in the iOS Keychain
INFORMATION WE COLLECT
Synapse does not collect any personal data directly. However, we integrate third-party services that may collect anonymized technical data to help us improve app performance and stability.
Third-Party Services
- Firebase Analytics — Collects anonymized usage data (e.g., session duration, feature engagement)
- Firebase Crashlytics — Collects anonymized crash reports and diagnostics
Data These Services May Collect
- Device model and OS version
- Crash traces and error diagnostics
- App performance metrics
- Region or language settings
- Anonymous usage behavior (e.g., screens viewed)
Firebase may collect limited device identifiers as outlined in its own privacy policy.
AI PROVIDERS & THIRD-PARTY INTEGRATIONS
When using external AI services (e.g., OpenAI, Ollama, Claude):
- Your messages are sent directly to the selected provider
- Synapse does not intercept, store, or process this data
- Each provider's own privacy policy applies to those interactions

DATA STORAGE & SECURITY
- Conversations and profiles are stored locally using Apple's Core Data framework
- API keys and tokens are stored securely in the iOS Keychain
- No personal or sensitive data is transmitted to our servers
- Data is sandboxed and encrypted by iOS mechanisms
YOUR RIGHTS & CONTROL
You have full control of your data:
- Delete chats and profiles anytime via the app
- Remove all data by uninstalling the app
- Keychain data is erased when the app is deleted
- Export data using the app's export feature (e.g., JSON or Markdown)
We do not manage accounts or store user information, so we cannot recover data once deleted.
CHILDREN'S PRIVACY
Synapse is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If we learn such data was submitted, we will take prompt action to delete it.
INTERNATIONAL DATA HANDLING
Synapse itself does not transfer or process data internationally. However, AI providers and Firebase may use regional data centers in accordance with their own infrastructure and privacy policies.
DATA RETENTION POLICIES
- Chat content: Stored locally until manually deleted
- Crash reports: Retained by Firebase Crashlytics for up to 90 days
- Analytics data: Anonymized and retained by Firebase for up to 14 months
SECURITY MEASURES
- Local storage of all chat and profile data
- iOS Keychain for credentials and sensitive values
- No remote storage or syncing
- Regular updates to address vulnerabilities
CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in the app or legal requirements. Significant changes will be communicated via:
- In-app messages
